Green Plumbing
Green plumbing is the plumbing of the
future. We are no longer in a
society that is only talking green,
rather we are in a society that is
living a green lifestyle. Being
green isn't only recycling trash, using
energy more efficiently, reducing water
waste, etc., it is a way of
life. We are all called to live
this life to preserve our environment and
everything that exists within it.
David Lies Plumbing, Inc. is committed
to this new way of life. Green
plumbing allows us to use our natural
resources more efficiently while greatly
reducing waste. It takes advantage
of cutting edge plumbing technology that
greatly improves the quality of life of
the consumer, while minimizing
any negative effects on our environment.
Rating System
Below is a list of green plumbing
technologies that we are able to
install, service, and maintain.
Next to each technology is our own
personal rating system using water
droplets ( ).
The rating is used to show how much
labor it would take and how expensive it
would be to install the corresponding
green technology.
=relatively
little labor and inexpensive to install.
 =moderate
amount of labor and moderately
expensive.
  =great
amount of labor and expensive to
install.
However, in the case of green
technologies, usually the more complex
and the greater the initial cost, the
greater the return on investment, and
the least impact that green technology
has on our surrounding environment.
Green Plumbing Technologies
Low Flow Shower Heads:

 |
Low
flow shower heads are shower
heads that use less than 2.5
gallons of water per minute.
Delta Faucet company uses a
H20 Kinetic technology that
uses larger drops of water to
compensate for less flow.
Actual water usage may be less,
but with this technology, it
doesn't feel like a shower is
being taken with less water.

Efficient Lavatory Faucets:

 |
Water
efficient lavatory faucets use
less than 1.5 gallons of water
per minute. |

Efficient Toilets:

 |
An
efficient toilet is one which
has an effective flush volume of
less than 1.28 gallons of water
per minute. Some toilets
have a dual flushing mechanism
that allows a user to use a
lesser amount of water to flush
only liquids or a regular flush
for solids. These
efficient toilets, while using
less water, flush more
powerfully. This is done
utilizing larger flappers in the
tank allowing a larger volume of water to
flush into the bowl at one time. |

Hot Water Recirculation Systems:

 |
Hot
water recirculation systems are
good for large buildings with
long hot water piping runs.
A hot water recirculation loop
uses a pump to re-circulate hot
water from the water heater to
the plumbing fixtures.
This allows for hot water to be
at a fixture instantly, rather
than having to turn on a faucet
and wait 5, 10, 15 seconds or
more for hot water. By
reducing the waiting and running
time of hot water, the amount of
water wasted is reduced. |

Water Reclamation Systems:
 |
Water
reclamation systems are systems
in which rain water is collected
and used. Rain water can
be used for several different
purposes:
1) Lawn and garden irrigation.
2) Filtered for use for flushing toilets and
outside
hose faucets.
3) Filtered and purified to be used as potable
water.
Proper water reclamation can
greatly reduce the amount of
potable, city supplied, water a
household or business uses
annually. |
