Toilet technology has advanced greatly
within the past several years.
Toilets use less water, but have a more
powerful flush. Most toilets
require 1.6 gallons of water per flush,
but some toilets only require 1.28
gallons of water per flush.
1.28 gallon per flush toilets are
classified as high efficiency toilets, a
green technology. Some toilets
have a dual flushing mechanism
that allows a user to use a
lesser amount of water to flush
only liquids or a regular flush
for solids, also a
green technology.
The flushing power of toilets is
determined by the size of the flapper
inside of the tank. While toilets
are now using less water to flush,
larger flappers in the tank allow more
water to flush into the bowl at one
time. At one time only power flush
toilets had a 1000 gram flushing power,
now regular tank type toilets are
achieving and exceeding this same power
with 3", 4", and even 5" flappers.
